Macnas Parade: Savage Grace. A wonderfully Dark Spectacle

There was magic in the air last week as over 45,000 people lined the to watch the annual Macnas Parade here in Galway. This year’s parade, Savage Grace was described as a relentless ballad, a deliriously dark and delicious waltz between love and loss. Artistic Director Noeline Kavanagh explained how it was a “poetic symphony of crazy chaos”.

Orla Clogher devised and designed the stunning spectacle that was Savage Grace, while Orlagh de Bhaildraithe was musical director and Cherie White costume designer.

President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina were also among the thousands of people who came out to view the parade. The 30 years of vision and talent was certainly apparent in this year’s production.

Luckily the weather was perfect for the evening without a drop or rain in sight! A big well done to all involved in this year’s parade. The October Bank Holiday weekend, just wouldn’t be the same without the Macnas parade. Already looking forward to next year!
